The best time to add insulation to your home is while you are adding new siding. Fanfold insulation is a convenient and inexpensive method of reducing your energy expenses.
What Is Fanfold Insulation
Expanded polystyrene (EPS), sometimes called R-Tech fanfold insulation, is a folded sheathing easily installed to the exterior before adding your new siding. It not only adds a layer of insulation but adds a layer of moisture resistance as well.
Since it is plastic-wrapped on both sides, it helps keep the mold and mildew from forming on the interior walls. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website, “The best way to control mold growth is to control moisture. Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and skin rash.” In addition, constant contact by young family members can lead to a lifetime of respiratory issues.
Fanfold EPS board helps control the moisture to keep outside mold spores from getting inside. It also adds R-value insulating strength to keep the heat or air-conditioned air inside, lowering your energy costs.
Why Add Insulation with Your Siding
It’s widely known and accepted that adding siding to a home is the number one method of adding curb appeal and value before you sell. However, adding insulation with your new siding adds value and protection against high utility and heating bills when you intend to stay.
On the flip side, when things heat up again next summer, your home will stay cooler with the added R-value of fanfold insulation under your siding. It will look good and maintain the interior temperature longer, so it’s a win-win.
Plus, the added R-value adds noise reduction to keep the traffic and neighborhood noise from penetrating your walls and disturbing your peaceful home.
